After graduating with honors from Tulane Law School in 1989, John worked from 1989 to 1995 as an associate in the Houston and Moscow offices of the Vinson & Elkins law firm. He joined Enron Development Corp. / Enron International Inc. (Enron's international power developer/owner) in 1995 and worked in Pakistan, India and elsewhere on the development and project financing of large power and LNG projects (including the marquis Dabhol Project) until 1999. While with Enron Development Corp., John worked closely with the developers, engineers, and other professionals putting together international and domestic power projects "from the ground up" and financing the projects in New York and London. John worked with and opposite to leading energy projects groups at "Wall Street" firms in New York and "golden circle" law firms in London. He has established relationships with and coordinated the work of host country counsel in India and other international markets.

In 1999, John became the general counsel for Enron Engineering & Construction ("EECC") and EECC's subsidiary, National Energy Production Company ("NEPCO"), which had responsibility for project financed and/or off-balance sheet financed domestic and international power project construction and development projects. Prior to the Enron bankruptcy, John's legal group transitioned into Enron Wholesale, Enron's developer of U.S. power plants and energy facilities, where they worked on the development of domestic facilities from the point of view of the developer. John joined Alstom Power Inc. as general counsel of its Richmond operations in 2002, where he focused on construction litigation, claims, warranty, service, and contracting matters. Since returning to private practice in October 2004, he has been focused on representing clients and negotiating and documenting agreements related to the acquisition of energy related assets and companies, potential merger transactions, new project developments and entity organizations, general contract negotiations, and construction claims matters. John is admitted to practice in the States of Texas (1989) and Louisiana (1989).
